Daydreaming

Oh, to be rich and famous. Oh, to be able to earn enough money from art to lavish in a life of luxury... Wait, that hardly ever happens. It's well known that some of our beloved artists of years pasts barely earned enough to feed and clothe themselves.

Some people wish for big houses and fancy cars. What would you choose? A fancy shmancy Mercedes Benz - or maybe a Porsche? Maybe you're more practical and Earth-oriented. Therefore you'd go with a Honda Civic Hybrid or even a Smart Car. I'd probably go with the Honda. I hear they get better gas mileage and they aren't super funky looking!

Thinking like that can take away from what art is about, though. To me, art is expression and I always feel really proud when I create something I deem worthy. Soon, when I get myself together, I hope to start making more, painting more, drawing more. Sure, it would be nice if someone would take interest in what I do, but that shouldn't be a priority. That's what I think anyway. Getting big dollar signs in the eyes before you've even slapped down your brush is sure to cheapen your work. Not to mention the restriction and anxiety you might feel.

Is it worth my time to even bother?!

No, it probably would not be worth your time. So even though we're all wishing for money and good fortune, we shouldn't let that interfere with our creative processes. It's a more freeing experience to let yourself go and create what you want to create without worrying what anyone else thinks about it.
